This Side of Her

The city is an empty motel room tonight,
taxis hanging by telegraph wires.
The sky is swarming with bad aeroplanes,
circling to take your baby away.

And all the lights have expelled by the festering sea.
My hand to hold, but you can’t feel her walking,
and all of the buildings are jaundiced and scared.
On this side of her, night is falling.
